AP’s lawsuit against AHN Media has been settled. AP accused AHN of rewriting AP articles and putting AHN’s name on them. The settlement amount is unknown, but AHN has admitted to using AP content.
The case demonstrates AP’s continuing commitment to protecting its intellectual property, despite the problems caused by the rise of the digital era of news. A similar suit against VeriSign’s Moreover news aggregation service was also settled.
AP has also been complying with the DMCA and sending take down notices to web site operators. If you are a blogger who takes inspiration from “hot off the press” news, be careful.
